Things Not Seen

In the book "things not seen" I am starting to to get more and more connections including me and Bobby. The first way he really reminds me of myself is by the way he thinks about certin things. For example when he said "mostly I like books that hve worlds that I can get into". I also like to think that way about books that I read because of your story has parts you can connect to it will probobly be easyer to understand the  situation. For example imagine that in your english class you have a discussion about a book that many people from your class read but you didn't. Wouldn't It be easyer to participate in the discussion if you actualy know and read the book?

Another way Bobby relates to me is by the way he acts. For example when he was Invisable he started experimenting being invisable. For example when he took gum and swollowed it to see if it showes from inside his stomach. Even before he did that experimen I was wondering if he ate something could you still see it moving inside his stomach?

The last way Bobby reminds me of myself is strait after he foundout that he was invisable he talked to his parents about it and then he went to his bedroom layed down in his bed and closed his eyes so he can think. When I need to ponder about something I like to go up to my room and lay in my bed where it's quiet and just close my eyes and think. Before that he also went to talk to his parent about his problem which is also something I like to do when I have a big problem and I can't find a solution.

Things Not Seen

The book "things not seen" is about a boy that wakes up one day and he is lituraly INVISABLE! With hid genious dad he trys to think of why he IS invisable. So far in the book all the charecters seem to be very interestin and they all are a really big part of the story. The thing that really suprised me in this book is that even though you would think that I would have abselutly no connections with him since he is invisable i find at lest 5 every chapter!

Last week I wrote about how my mom really connects to Bobby's (the main charecter) mom. And when I kept readin I found even more.  When Bobby's mom left a note for him because he overslept reminded me of when my mom leaves notes for me on the fridge when I oversleep. Not only that she left a note but the note sounded pretty close to what my mom might write. She usualy writed in details like his mom, she also usualy would write where she is and what to do untill she comes back like what his mom wrote. I think that the reason my mom and his mom seem so simular is probobly because the author wanted to make his mom soud very real not like some books that the mom just lets the kids do whatever they want.I think that it would actual make sence as an author to make the families seem the most realistic as possible. It migh even be easyer to understand how people feel through connecting with the charecters in tour book.

The other connection I made with my mom and Bobby's mom is that like Bobby's mom my mom also works in the university which is why my mom and his mom always makes us read. So when he said that he is really annoyed that when ever his mom catches him bored she "shoves" a book at his face it reminded me of when my mom always makes me read when I watch TV because she thinks that I'm bored!

Things Not Seen

In the book "Things Not Seen" my connection this week is to Bobby's (the main character) mom. Latly she reminds me a lot of my mom. For example when she said "Ho god, Ho god you are invisable", after she said that he said that she always over reacts. Which is the exact same thing I think about my mom! Like when I fell of my bike she was so worried! But in this case I kind of agree with his mom. If my son just turned invisable one morning I would probobly worry just as much as his mom did. And I don't really think  that his mom is over reacting.

Another example why I think my mom reminds me of Bobby's mom is the way she reacted when Bobby told her that he was invisable. This is how Bobby described that moment "she lookes at dad and smiles that "kids!" smile" when he said that I had a picture in my mind of his mom turning to his dad and smiling this weird smile that my mom does when my sister says silly things. I thought it was really weird that his mom did that when my mom does it all the time. I don't know, maybe it's something that parents do often?

Things Not Seen

So the book I’m reading is called “Things Not Seen”. This book is about a boy that wakes up one day and doesn’t see himself in the mirror! This book’s perspective is first person which means  that the story is told from one of the character’s eyes using the words I, me, my, myself etc. In this book it happens to be the main character’s perspective. I know its first person because he uses those words throughout the story. A quote from the text that shows that could be “so I go back to the big mirror” and another example could be “and I can’t see myself”.
A quote that you directly see the perspective might be a quote that had I or myself right in it like “and now I have got their attention” and “so I’m thinking, Oh , great.” As you can they both are clearly directly reviled since they say I and I’m. It is pretty easy to know it’s first person when it’s right there!
You won’t be able to always see the perspective directly. An example of an indirectly revealed perspective is “Mom’s hand starts reaching” and “It’d dad again. He’s clearing his throat.” This is a bit more tricky because it doesn’t say me, myself, I etc. But it does say mom and dad. And usually when you call someone mom it means she is your mother and the same thing with dad. So you know it’s the boy that is telling the story. I agree it is harder than the direct but it makes sense.
One of the only ways you can learn about other characters in a book that is told from first perspective is by what the person that tells the story acts and says about them. For example in my book he says “Meet professor mom.” So what we learn about the mom from his perspective is that she knows everything!  Kind of like a metaphor! The reason why I don’t like this is that there when its what someone says what HE thinks about someone might not always be true! Because you might not like someone at all and you would tell everyone they were mean but really they could be really nice!

                                           THE YEAR OF THE DOG

I like Pacy from the year of the dog a lot but I don't like her class mates at all. Comparing to my class mated they are really mean. For example when Pacy was trying out for Dorothy for the school play one of her class mates told her she can't try out for Dorothy because Dorothy isn't Chinese! If someone said that I can't try out for Dorothy because I was Jewish I would be really upset and sad. It's a play not who is the closest to be Dorothy! Another example is when they were drawing pictures a group of girls were making fun of how she drew things and when the teacher said she really liked it and she showed it to thw whole class they were being really mean and they were making faces at her. If you dont like what someone drew keep it to yourself don't be mean! I don't really expect them all to love her but just not be so mean.

Even though I don't like some people I like her friends and her teachers. The friends seem really nice to her. And her teacher comlements her a lot.

The book I am reading is "The year of the dog". This book was very nice at the begining. It was interestin funny and a fun way to learn about their culture. Another reason that I like this book is because the main characret Pacy reminds me of myself because of the way she acts and says things. For example when a new girl came to the school she went to talk to her strait away like I did and she also likes to know where someone is from and if they are like her when they come. Another example is that sometimes it tell my friends something that is not true so they will be happy, like when Pacy told her friend that there was such thing as the year ot the unicorn. However as I read on the book started to get less and less interesting since every chapter Pacy's mom tells her a story about her childhood. It's usualy not very relevent or needed and it is just boring. I want to know more about the actual storie not about her mom's childhood. I guess the author does this to have a cool way to tell about their culture. Anyway I would want to finish reading this book because the actual storie is very interesting. But I still hope that some how the mom wont tell any childhood stories and it will become more interesting.

In the book "The year of the dog" I like the main character Pacy a lot. She is very nice and she cares a lot about her family and her friends. For example her family believes that the longer the kids will stay up at night the longer their parents live. When her mom told her to go to sleep because there was school the next day she got really worried because she thought that it was really important that she stays up late so her parents will have a long life. But something else made me connect to her. At the beginning of the book Pacy saw that a new girl came to the school she was really interested to know all about her. She went to her and sat next to her and wanted to know everything about her. On the first day of school me and my friend saw a new girl in school and like Pacy we wanted to know everything about her! And like Pacy and her 2 friends we became like a 3 best friends. When I read that part I had like flash back! I think that because Pacy has so much in common with the new girl they would be very good friends. I am really interested in finishing to read this book because you can understand the book a lot better when you have so may things in common with the main character!
